Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, reacted to the viral video showing him meeting with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Abuja on Saturday.
Tinubu warned Nigerians against creating a “issue” of Atiku’s meeting.
The APC National Leader claimed that he just exchanged pleasantries with the Peoples Democratic Party’s former presidential candidate at the airport.
At the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja on Friday, Tinubu met and exchanged pleasantries with Atiku, a PDP chieftain.
Atiku came from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the same time Tinubu was passing through the airport.
When he arrived, the former Lagos State governor approached Atiku as he exited his vehicle, and the two exchanged pleasantries.
Despite their differing political ideologies and party memberships, both notable leaders are considered to be longstanding pals.
However, other Nigerians, in response to the niceties, warned others not to put their confidence in politicians.
Tinubu has advised individuals who are unhappy with the way he met Atiku to reconsider their position as they are friends.
Tunde Rahman, his spokesperson, made the statement in a tweet on his behalf.
The tweet reads “On the @AsiwajuTinubu @atiku Video at Abuja Airport,” Rahman wrote: “Former Vice President @atiku had arrived first and was in his car about to leave when @AsiwajuTinubu arrived.
“As he was informed about him, @AsiwajuTinubu walked up to @atiku vehicle to exchange pleasantries with him.
“Those making an issue out of this noble gesture should have a rethink. For the life of me, are they saying if two persons know each other and are friends, they must not greet each other as mature persons again because they find themselves in opposing political parties? If that’s their thinking, this is a warped idea!”
