Gunmen targeted and burned down another police station in Imo State, just hours after Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former Inspector General of Police Muhammed Adamu left Owerri, the state capital.

Osinbajo and other Federal Government officials, including Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola, had traveled to the state to assess the extent of the damage to the charred security facilities.

Shortly after they left, the gunmen assaulted and set fire to the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area Divisional Police Headquarters.

It was confirmed that when the gunmen arrived at the station, they released all detained suspects before torching the Police Divisional Headquarters.

According to eyewitness accounts, the gunmen worked without seeing any police officers.

“Gunmen this evening razed Ehime Mbano LGA police divisional headquarters,” a source said. The gunmen who arrived with weapons rescued the criminals before wreaking havoc.”

The incident was reported by Imo Police spokesperson Orlando Ikeokwu, who added that there were no police casualties or weapons lost, but that the attackers burned three cars.
