NURTW vs RTEAN: Amusan, Oluomo Explain Obalende Conflict

The Nigerian Road Transport Employers Association (RTEAN) and the National Road Transport Employees Union (NURTW) disagreed over the conflict at Obalende in Lagos on Thursday.

For hours before police restored normalcy, a free-for-all over ownership of the garage created tension in the city.

RTEAN Publicity Secretary, Abdulrahman Amusan, urged the state government to interfere in the matter.

Amusan assured NAN that his union was famed for harmony and had worked without any problems for several years in Obalende.

He said trouble began when members of NURTW threatened to dislodge counterparts of RTEAN from their area of operations.

Amusan recalled that his company kept the ground that contributed to the battle.

“We have been working at Obalende for long. All of a sudden, on Monday, members of the NURTW encroached into the area of operations of RTEAN.”

“This morning when they came, they met with resistance from our members, and that led to the fracas”, the spokesman said.

In his response, Musiliu Akinsanya, the state NURTW chairman, popularly known as MC Oluomo, acquitted his union of guilt.

He said that the battle erupted because RTEAN participants assaulted members of NURTW in an effort to take over the motor park.

The police called for a meeting with the heads of the quarreling forces. Also, CP Hakeem Odumosu warned
