In the eastern Donbas region, Russian soldiers are striking Ukrainian positions along the whole 300-mile (480-kilometer) front line.
It comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky proclaimed the start of a long-anticipated Russian operation in Ukraine’s east.
Overnight, Moscow claims to have hit over 1,000 targets.
Despite focusing on the eastern offensive, Russian forces have recently struck other cities around the country, including Lviv in western Ukraine.
Russian-backed fighters are also supposed to be attempting to storm a Mariupol industrial complex where Ukrainian military and civilians are believed to be holed up.
According to military analysts, Ukrainian forces are executing some successful counter-attacks south of Kharkiv.
