A new spacecraft journey to the red planet (Mars) was a success, NASA successfully landed its most advanced rover ever on the surface of another planet last week Thursday, this sums up Americans’ safe landing record to the planet to six.
History was made during This particularly safe landing on the red planet because it was overseas by a lady, an Indian-Amerian named Swati Mohan, she victoriously led the NASA Mars Landing Project 2020 on the surface.
The news of the successful landing of the Nasa team after seven months in space was confirmed by Mohan on Thursday at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. “Perseverance safely on the surface of Mars, ready to begin seeking the signs of past life,” she announced.
She spearheaded the development of attitude control and the landing system for the Mars Perseverance Rover project.
Nasa announced that The Perseverance rover carried seven instruments which are the Mastcam-Z; the Mars Environmental Dynamics Analyzer, or MEDA; the Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment, or MOXIE; the Planetary Instrument for X-ray Lithochemistry, or PIXL; the Radar Imager for Mars’ Subsurface Experiment, or RIMFAX; the Scanning Habitable Environments with Raman & Luminescence for Organics & Chemicals, or SHERLOC, and the Super Cam to conduct “unprecedented science and test new technology on the Red Planet.
The perseverance will spend one Mars year which is equal to two years on Earth, the rover will search for signs of ancient microbial life, which will advance NASA’s mission to explore the history of habitability on Mars. The rover has a drill that it will use to collect core samples of Martian rock and soil, then store them in sealed tubes for pickup by a future mission that would take them back to Earth for detailed analysis.
Even though she and her team were prepared for the worse surprisingly the mission was a total success.
Mohan has worked very hard almost all her life to make this golden moment happen.
I’ve been on Perseverance longer than I’ve been at any school. I’ve been on Perseverance longer than my younger daughter is alive. It’s just taken up such a large portion of my life for so long,” Dr Mohan said while explaining her involvement in the NASA Mars Landing Project 2020.

Let’s Dive a little into Swati Mohan’s personal life
Mohan is a 30year old Indian American who moved to the United States when she was only a year old,
Because of her interest in the English television show star-trek, she chose to study science in high school.
At age of nine after watching star Trek’, she was astounded by the beautiful depictions of the new region of the universe they were exploring. She immediately developed an interest and wanted to find new places in the universe
Swati Mohan bagged a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Cornell University and completed her MS and PhD from MIT in Aeronautics/Astronautics.
She is currently based in Pasadena, in California, US
Swati’s Photos went viral, along with praises for her crucial role in the mission.
Above all, we are convinced that 2021 will be an amazing year filled with stunning photos and news about the red planet (Mars) as the Nasa team research the habitability of the planet
